WHO IS LILLY?
Hi! I'm Lilly Hackett, 21, from the South East, and I'm currently completing my Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Marketing and Branding at Nottingham Trent University. After an exciting and fulfilling journey through my studies, I'm now gearing up to take the next big step in my career.
Throughout my time studying marketing and branding, I’ve had the chance to dive into a variety of projects, from live briefs to event organisation, and I’ve discovered that my strengths lie in working collaboratively, building strong relationships with diverse people, uncovering commercial opportunities through in-depth research, and shaping unique brand identities.
As part of my course, I’ve also had the opportunity to take trips to inspiring industry locations, such as Boohoo's headquarters in Manchester and Face Gym in London. These experiences really opened my eyes to the inner workings of the fashion and fitness industries, and have fuelled my passion for pursuing a career that blends both. Seeing how innovative companies operate first-hand has reinforced my belief that I want to create something of my own within the fitness apparel space.
What excites me most about my career is the opportunity to combine my love of fitness with my expertise in branding and marketing. Fitness has always been a huge part of my life, from going to the gym, running, to following fitness influencers. I’ve always been drawn to the world of activewear, and I believe fitness apparel is more than just about performance, it’s about empowering people to feel their best and express themselves through their clothing.
I want to create a fitness apparel brand that not only offers high-quality, functional products but also promotes a healthy lifestyle and positive change. What sets my vision apart is my dedication to blending style with performance, ensuring that the brand resonates deeply with consumers. I would love to foster a community around the brand, inspiring individuals to reach their full potential, both in their fitness journey and in their daily lives.
Ultimately, my goal is to become a business owner within the fitness apparel sector. I see a growing demand for more inclusive, versatile, and stylish activewear, and I want to meet that demand by developing a brand that speaks to people’s values and lifestyles. I will work on creating innovative marketing strategies and product designs that stay ahead of trends, all while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability and making a positive social impact.
While starting my career in today’s uncertain world might seem daunting, I’m filled with excitement and optimism about what lies ahead. My degree has equipped me with the tools to innovate strategically and solve real problems, skills that are more important than ever for businesses today.

For a key project, I had the opportunity to collaborate with a fashion designer to create a complete brand launch package. This process required me to apply my creativity and skills in design, while also effectively networking and building a strong working relationship with the designer.
Through continuous communication and collaboration, we were able to bring the brand vision to life. The success of this project demonstrates my ability to work effectively within a team, foster strong professional relationships, and contribute to the successful execution of creative initiatives. This experience highlights my capacity to collaborate, network, and build valuable connections that are essential in any professional setting
Developing Meaningful Connections and Strengthening Network
Stage One of my research was crucial in developing my networking and relationship-building skills. Through primary research methods like interviews, focus groups, and diary studies, I actively engaged with industry experts, educators in fashion psychology, and professionals in wellness.
For instance, I conducted interviews with senior professionals, including marketing directors and senior auditors, which allowed me to build meaningful connections while gaining valuable insights. These interactions not only strengthened my professional network but also showcased my ability to communicate effectively and gather expert perspectives to inform my work.

Balancing a part-time job during university, alongside tight deadlines, was a significant challenge. At times, fatigue made it difficult, but I adapted by managing my time effectively to ensure I met all my deadlines. I remained committed to my work and overcame these circumstances to succeed.

My expertise in Adobe design software enables me to create visually impactful and highly relevant work. I excel in using programmes such as InDesign and Illustrator for print and layout design.
Photoshop for photo editing and creative visuals, and in developing interactive documents that enhance communication and engagement. My proficiency ensures that every project is tailored to deliver clear, effective, and innovative results.

PHOTOGRAPHY ASSISTANT AT LITTLE SMILES
SALES ADVISOR AT NEXT
Working at NEXT for just under a year provided me with valuable experience, particularly during the busy sales periods, where I honed my ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
This role allowed me to gain a deep understanding of customer service and sales strategies, while also enhancing my knowledge of the fashion retail industry.
Additionally, I developed a strong insight into the preferences and buying behaviours of British consumers, which has been crucial in understanding the retail landscape from a front-line perspective.
I assisted with photoshoots, greeted clients, and interacted with them professionally to understand the type of shoot they wanted.
I was also designed the logo, website, and business cards, which helped me develop a strong understanding of brand identity and design. This role allowed me to gain hands-on experience in the creative process and improve my communication and organisational skills.

VOLUNTEERING WORK
Through my volunteer work with Parkrun in Nottingham, Brighton, and Eastbourne, I help promote fitness in local communities by encouraging participants to stay active.
This role has strengthened my teamwork, communication, and event organisation skills while fostering my passion for supporting others' well-being.
